It is official – this season is thoroughly friendly on your wallet. This may not seem like it is the case, what with all those jackets and dresses on sale for hundreds of pounds, but actually the top trends are all ones that, with a little bit of planning, are really quite thrift-able.
That’s right – if you know what to look for then the top trends can be picked up on eBay, in vintage shops, or even in Charity shops. The end goal? To save us lots of money!
Shearling
The aviator jacket is going to be the easiest thing to find in this particular trend. Avoid eBay currently, where vintage items are selling for more than they seem to cost new (I want to make some pun here about people following the trends like sheep…), but charity shops still have aviator jackets for a reasonable bargain. You can find sheepskin things too, and especially worth keeping an eye out for on eBay and in charity shops are warm wool lined boots. There is nothing complicated about this trend – just look for the originals, like this warm camel tie-waisted coat, just $22 at the time of writing!
Ladylike
Full circle skirts and ladylike tea dresses are all over the mags at the moment. The only difference from all the gorgeous and better quality vintage versions is that they cost a hell of a lot more. Leather and Lace
We all know that these aren’t new trends – after all, they just keep rolling round again and again. This makes them particularly easy to thrift, especially if you are looking for some of the more eighties inspired pieces. A car boot sale, for example, is usually a great place to find strange lace contraptions and beaded jumpers, both of which will work perfectly with a leather skirt. Again, eBay is a great place for these – there are so many that they never get too expensive. In particular I like this faux leather suit with lace trim – although you have to be brave in order to pull it off – but for just £7.99 you can’t go wrong!
Winter boots
I am afraid to say that you simply aren’t going to find vintage versions of the heeled walking boots that are all over the place at the moment. However, you can find vintage (and thus more comfortable) DMs, and other military style boots. If you are willing to pay a bit more, you can also find stunning Victorian lace up boots, for still nothing near the price you’ll pay the designers for them! These lace up 1960s suede boots, although not puddle friendly, are a bargain at just 99p currently!
