The curriculum of our Rabbinical School, Cantorial School and Chaplaincy School reflects our innovative, transdenominational approach to the training of Jewish spiritual leaders. We believe that in order for our students to be most effective in their role as 21st century Jewish spiritual leaders, they must engage in intensive study of the ancient Jewish texts as well as gain an in-depth understanding of the teachings and traditions of all of Judaism’s denominations. By exposing our students to the full range of approaches to Jewish learning, values, and practices, we honor the varied voices of authority within our one religion. We also believe that in order to help their fellow Jews feel a deep, personal connection to Judaism, our graduates must be able to convey a very real sense of spirituality and have the ability to foster spiritual growth. Related to that, we want to ensure that they’re well-equipped to help those they serve, in both good times and bad. Reflecting these priorities, the curriculum of each of the schools places a major emphasis on spirituality and spiritual counseling. As a result, our graduates are better able to provide those who come to them for help with greater internal resources to deal with adversity, to counter feelings of anxiety and anguish, and to give those who are in pain a greater sense of G-d’s presence being with them.
